After the final of the Santander X Spain Award program held last November at the national headquarters of Santander Bank in Madrid, ICU Medical Technologies goes to the final with its KronoSafe® Project. The 10 best projects have been selected among the 8 participating countries (Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, United Kingdom, Chile, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay).

On this occasion, the international program is looking for projects with huge worldwide impact, and in this sense, they have valued the great clinical and economic benefit provided by the use of KronoSafe®. Improving the safety and effectiveness of a procedure that is performed 1.2 to 1.9 million times a year, such as Temporary Cardiac Pacing, will mean a great reduction in complications. It has been estimated that the use of temporary pacemakers with KronoSafe® will prevent more than 370,000 complications each year (12,000 of them deaths). In addition, the use of this system avoids the need for ICU admission and absolut rest, increasing the availability of ICU beds for other criticall patients. All these advantages provide economic savings for healthcare systems: €2,200 million per year in Europe and more than €11,000 million per year worldwide.

The objective of the ICU Medical Technologies project, KronoSafe®, is to reduce complications and favor the sustainability of the healthcare system.
